Training
SALT has a tradition of delivering accessible and quality training for local people such as Community Research, First Aid, Food Hygiene, Business Planning, Marketing and Promotion, ICT and much more. We are looking to strengthen this delivery in the future by creating a rolling programme of needs-led training opportunities. Recently we carried out a questionnaire survey of the training needs of groups across Seedley / Langworthy and Ordsall. Lots of ideas came back for training / workshops on topics as far and wide as - how to run meetings, find funding & grants, marketing and business planning to health and safety, food hygiene and First Aid.
We always make the training free for local residents and groups, but local businesses who are looking to up-skill their staff may also access our training for a small fee.
We are soon to launch a new phase of OCN accredited Media Training (filming, radio, photography and journalism), as well as Business Support Training funded by Salford City Council Economic Development Team which includes website design, business planning, marketing, funding / financing and 1-2-1 sessions with a business advisor.
Salford Community Media Partnership (SCMP)
Salford Community Media Partnership (SCMP) was launched on 25th November 2007 during the Community Element of the Salford Film Festival. A partnership between Creative Industries in Salford, The Langworthy Cornerstone Association and the Seedley & Langworthy Trust was forged and an application for NLDC funding was successful. As a result of that funding we have been able to engage other media groups and organisations across Salford as part of the delivery of that project and as the partnership grows we hope it will strengthen the delivery of media training, work placements and work experience, as well as improving access to opportunities at media city for Salford residents.
Media Training 2007
Many of our learners are working on a voluntary basis for a local magazine ‘Salford Star’ and gaining invaluable experience in photography, graphic design and journalism. Some were asked to submit a portfolio for Salford URC who were looking to commission a photographer for a piece of research.
2008 Calendars for Sale!
We used artwork from last year’s digital imaging training to produce a calendar to help raise funds for further media training. The calendar contains 12 x A4 sized images produced by local people whose work is informed by their experience of regeneration. These are still available for purchase at £3.80. Please phone Linda to order.
